    Newark Air Museum - Attraction
    Drove Lane, Winthorpe, Newark, Nottinghamshire

The museum in association with the RAF Balderton Research Group is proud to announce that it will be hosting a Reunion for surviving personnel and the families of former personnel who served at RAF Balderton from 1941 to 1954.

This event will take place on Sunday 8th April 2018 at the museum site here in eastern Nottinghamshire. In our Memorial Garden there will be a ceremonial dedication of a commemorative tree, and the laying of a piece of RAF Balderton’s runway, with a plaque dedicated to all those that served at RAF Balderton.

The event will also coincide with the launch of the latest book by the museum’s own Colin Savill; entitled “Station of Nations” the book will chart the history of RAF Balderton.

Invitations will be sent out to various special guests. Members are all welcome to join us as we meet to remember all those who served at this forgotten airfield.

More details will follow over the next few months.

  • Tribute to the V-Force 2018 – 19 May, 2018

    19 May 2018 - 19 May 2018
    Newark Air Museum - Attraction
    Drove Lane, Winthorpe, Newark, Nottinghamshire

On Saturday 19th May 2018, the museum will be again hosting a Tribute to the V-Force Reunion event at its site in eastern Nottinghamshire.

This will be a reunion event similar in format to the 2016 event and is being organised by the museum volunteers and staff. Once again we hope that it will include a range of visiting displays connected to the three V-force aircraft; Valiant, Victor and Vulcan; the Squadrons that were part of the V-Force; and the personnel that flew and maintained the aircraft.

During the day an area will be set up for former V-Force personnel to sign-in, collect their badges and this will be staffed by museum volunteers and hopefully some former members of the V-Force.

The museum is keen to hear from any former personnel who would like to participate. Ideally we would like you to send us a message by email via this this Link

By contacting us and advising of your likely attendance we will get a good idea of participation numbers, which will mean that we will be able to make the necessary arrangements more effectively.

An indication of the Squadron that you served with and the type of V-Force aircraft you flew would also be of great help to us. We will acknowledge each email (we will aim to do this within 48 hours) and if you bring along a copy of your email to the event you will get the reduced rate admission of £7.00 per person. This will include the provision of an identification badge for the event.

Throughout the weekend we also plan to have a number of museum aircraft open for people to visit – this will include the Vulcan, Hastings and Varsity. A small additional charge of £1.00  person will be made for each aircraft visited. The museum continues to collect Log Book entries for Vulcan XM594, Hastings TG517 and Varsity WF369 and would welcome any additional information being provided during this weekend.

This event is open to the general public & normal museum admission rates apply: Adults £9.00, Over 65s £8.00, Children £4.50 and Family ticket [2 adults & 3 children] £23.00

  • Bastion in the Air - The Collection 26th May to 9th September 2018

    26 May 2018 - 9 Sep 2018
    The Collection Art & Archaeology
    Danes Terrace, Lincoln, Lincolnshire

The exhibition at The Collection will run from 26th May until 9th September 2018.

An entrance fee will be applicable but visitors will not need to book in advance.

The exhibition focuses on the rising threat to Britain from air attacks by airships and aircraft, and on the British response, including the formation of the RAF in 1918.

A number of museums in Germany are supporting this exhibition with information and artefacts. Lord Ashcroft is kindly lending us the original Victoria Cross awarded to Lt William Leefe Robinson for shooting down an airship over Hertfordshire, the first one destroyed over Britain by a fighter aircraft.  We will also be displaying a model zeppelin that is over 5 metres long.

Learn about the contribution by Lincolnshire to British aircraft production during the First World War.  Many people – including native 'yellowbellies' – are not aware that Lincoln was one of the world's largest aircraft manufacturing centres at the time!
